Class Schedules
Classes meet Monday through Friday at various times between 9:00am and 1:00pm, with a minimum of 18 hours of instructor-taught class time per week. If you are a new student (this is your first quarter studying in the 10-Week program), you will take a placement test on the first day of the program. All students receive an email from DCE on Friday of Week 0 with their schedule. If you did not receive am email with a schedule, you may go to CE1 Front Desk to ask on Monday of Week 0.
Placement Test
New students take the Versant English Placement Test (VEPT) on the first day of the program. This comprehensive, 50-minute computer test has questions to evaluate your speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. Students are placed in a specific level based on their test scores. Test scores are not available to students.
Levels and Level Changes
Our program has 8 levels, ranging from fundamentals to advanced:
Level Fundamentals: Low-Beginner
Level 1: Beginning
Level 2: High-beginning
Level 3: Low-intermediate
Level 4: Intermediate
Level 5: High-intermediate
Level 6: Low-advanced
Level 7: Advanced
If you feel that you are not in the appropriate level, please speak to your teachers directly during the first week of class. The staff cannot change your level. You will take diagnostic exams in each class during the first week. These exams show teachers your abilities in that class and level. If you get a score of 90% or higher, the teacher may recommend you to move to the next level in that class.
After finishing a quarter, you may advance to the next level if you receive a 70% or above in each class. If you receive below a 70% in a class, you will repeat that class the following quarter.
